Shoppers take advantage of Black Friday deals

“We had anticipated it to be busier, but we’re happy with the way it is”, said Judy Fox from Winter Garden.

Now, we’ve heard of a few retailers who are deciding to keep their doors closed for Thanksgiving and Black Friday.

One of the most dreaded parts of Black Friday shopping was waiting in those long lines.

“We have been here since 3 a.m.”, Kevin Carter, of St. Albans, said on his way to look for men’s wear sales at Queens Center Mall. The study estimates that Americans plan to spend $584 on average this Black Friday as opposed to last year’s average of $501.

Meanwhile, Suntrust Robinson Humphrey analysts called Thursday a “bust”, adding that “Members of our team who went to the malls first had no problem finding parking or navigating stores”.

Some shoppers in our area started shopping for Black Friday deals on Thanksgiving Day and continued on Friday. T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and Home Goods will all be open until 10, with Five Below and Crate & Barrel closing at 9.

It’s a family affair, which is why some shoppers say they don’t mind it cutting into their Thanksgiving time.

Crowds of people waited outside of Dolphin Mall Thursday night, and the excitement is still alive Friday morning.

“The frenzy and traffic levels were subdued”, said Craig Johnson, president of Customer Growth Partners, a retail consultancy.

Nationwide, the National Retail Federation expected about 30 million to shop on Thanksgiving, compared with 99.7 million on Black Friday.

Abotaleb: “We sell them for 349”.

Employees were paid double time for the Thanksgiving shift, Meyers said, and many were asking their managers to work the holiday.

Some things are cheapest before Black Friday.

Oak Court Mall kept Thanksgiving hours to a minimum and reopened Black Friday at 6:00 a.m.to welcome a new wave of customers. “We really value the people of Jacksonville, so we need to give back to them since they support our business”. You can take a note of the product and search for the deals at all of the retail giants to get the discounts.

Jeff Simpson, a principal at Deloitte, also said doorbusters – fat discounts on hot items that once drew shoppers in for store openings – are losing their “umph”. “I was ready to get into a fist fight”, said Moore.
