Today’s the day that millions of shoppers have been waiting for, the official start of Amazon;s Black Friday Deals week. Hence, the e-commerce giant will have eight days of savings around the Thanksgiving holiday which starts November 20th and ends on Black Friday i.e. November 27. Historically the day after Thanksgiving is the day that retail stores went into the “black” for the year, turning positive balance sheets all the way till New Year’s Eve.

“Last year, total holiday sales from the Amazon Mobile Shopping App doubled in the USA and Black Friday had the most rapid growth in mobile shopping”, Amazon said in a news release, according to CNN Money. All of the company’s 143 stores will remain shuttered from Wednesday night to Saturday, while REI is pushing its message online with the hashtag @OptOutside.
Retailers are launching big discounts as early as this week – and offering them again on Thanksgiving and the following day, traditionally known as Black Friday.
“We’re already seeing a number of retailers not opening on Thanksgiving and that change could get greater”, Fernandez said. “In-store shopping remains the preeminent channel for transactions, but online retail is continuing to influence those transactions by offering added value to shoppers in the form of research, in-store pickup and more”.

Walmart will be open regular business hours except for Thanksgiving Day and have extended hours on Black Friday. Hatcher has never taken advantage of Black Friday, but said stories of afforded deals from family members has convinced her to join the throngs of shoppers this year.
Kaylyn Bartley, sophomore in global studies in human sciences, said she doesn’t really participate in the peak of Black Friday mayhem. He still sees a lot of people, but often comparing prices, not buying.
