Shots Fired at Camp Shelby Soldiers in Mississippi

The suspects were driving a red Ford Ranger with the words “broken arrow” on the windshield. No one was injured.

According to WDAM in Hattiesburg, the shots were fired at a group of soldiers who were training in the area around 12:10 p.m. Tuesday. Smith said his agency has “a few good leads” in the shooting.

The vehicle was located near New Augusta, WDAM’s Ryan Moore tweeted.

The shooting happened just before noon Tuesday on Paret Tower Road near Camp Shelby.

Members of the Forrest County Sheriff’s Department and the Mississippi Forestry Commission are assisting in the search.

All told, about 4,600 soldiers are participating in the exercises to train active soldiers, reserve soldiers and the National Guard together.

Hattiesburg Police Chief Anthony “Stoney” parker was sworn in as the city’s top cop on Monday.

Camp Shelby officials told 16 WAPT News that they could not confirm or deny the incident, but said an extensive training exercise is underway that “incorporates all types of scenarios for training”.
