A sports scientist banned from working in Australia’s top two professional leagues in the wake of a scandal over the use of peptides has suffered a minor injury after shots were fired at his Melbourne home, local media reported on Saturday.

One of the bullets fired shattered an upstairs window at the property and reportedly grazed Dank’s forehead.

Dank was taken to hospital while another person was home at the time.

Serious Crime Response Team detectives are on the scene in Melbourne’s inner northwest where the shots were fired.

“Emergency services were called to a Gillespie Avenue home after receiving reports that a man had been injured in a shooting at 2.20am”, Victoria Police said in a statement.

“The man was conveyed to hospital and a crime scene has been established”.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

Dank was given a life ban by the AFL anti-doping tribunal previous year for his role in doping violations involving 34 current and past Essendon players.

The man injured is believed to be Mr Dank, one of the central figures of the Essendon supplement saga.

The NRL said in 2014 Dank would not be allowed any further involvement in the game, but he has denied any wrongdoing in his work with NRL or AFL players.
