Protesters are camped outside the 4th Precinct in north Minneapolis, refusing to leave until the footage is made public. About 35 activists gathered in a circle around a fire to talk about what keeps them going.
“We only got one message for her. We don’t want her to underdo her job, we don’t want her to overdo her job”, Hill said.
Four suspects held in connection with a shooting that injured five protesters during a rally against police brutality in Minneapolis have been named.
Police said Wednesday they had taken a 27-year-old man into custody.
In a subsequent incident early Wednesday morning, police responded to a “shots fired” activation from the city’s ShotSpotter equipment in the area near the 4th Precinct.
All three men are being held by police without bail on suspicion of assault, according to online jail records.
“As a result of the continuing investigation, the Hennepin County Attorney’s office asked for, and a Hennepin County District Court judge has granted an extension until noon Monday before the county attorney’s office has to make a charging decision”, Freeman reported in a news release.
Demonstrators in Minneapolis continue to protest the shooting death of a black man by city police.
“I demand the shooters be brought to justice, and I am relieved that three suspects have been arrested”, Ellison said.
Vehicles in the procession from Jamar Clark’s funeral service to a cemetery honked their horns as they went past the protesters, who shouted “Justice for Jamar” in return.
People carry the casket of Jamar Clark, killed in the Nov. 15 shooting by Minneapolis police, during his funeral at Shiloh Temple International Ministries in Minneapolis, Minn., Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015. According to numerous witness accounts, Clark was placed in handcuffs and slammed to the ground at the intersection of James and Plymouth Ave N. Police say he was not in handcuffs and was struggling to disarm and officer. About 100 people attended. “Your death is not in vain”. Howell said what’s needed now is a special state legislative session to address the needs of Minnesota’s minority community.
“Jamar, your life did and does have objective”, he said to a standing ovation. Earlier Tuesday, police arrested a 32-year-old Hispanic man in south Minneapolis, but he was later released because, police said, he was not at the scene of the shooting.
“I’ve been to too many funerals and I’m exhausted of it”, mourner Sheryllynn Wagner told reporters outside the church. As the cars stopped in the protester encampment, people in cars also raised their fists and hung out of windows. Drew Evans, superintendent of the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, said that authorities were still working to determine whether Clark was handcuffed when he died. A number of the protesters had been rough with the bunch, as stated by reporters and said authorities had showed up in full riot gear the night before.
However, Stephen Belton, the Minneapolis Urban League’s interim president, has stated that some members of Clark’s family are calling for a complete cessation of protests.
Belton asked protesters to end the vigil outside the 4th Precinct and allow the federal and local investigations to move forward.
