The shooting occurred on Monday at around 8:18 p.m. when someone in a dark-gray Nissan Altima reportedly fired six shots at Arnold’s home in Rutherford County.

The sheriff and his family were at home at the time of the shooting, but no one was injured.

He then referred to the loss of seven officers since the Super Bowl 50 halftime show, saying, “I mean, I think we have lost five to seven officers, five deputies and sheriffs since Sunday’s Super Bowl”. “That’s the only thing that I can think of, is just me in my position as a whole”.

He wondered if it was part of a wave of attacks on law enforcement officials around the country and pointed to “everything that’s happened since the Super Bowl”.

Arnold also released a statement after his comments were made in which he did not back away from his comments but did say that he did not mean to offend anyone.

The Murfreesboro Police Department is investigating.

A neighbor, Charles Evans, told the officer that while he was backing out of his driveway, he heard approximately five gunshots. Officers found six casings on the ground near the home, according to The Tennessean. He said he stopped immediately and looked around, but didn’t see anything and drove toward Walmart. No word yet on any possible suspects.

“I’m alive and well”.

The Rutherford County sheriff later clarified his comments to the paper.

In May 2015, Arnold’s home and office were raided by the federal and Tennessee bureaus of investigation in connection to the case.
