Should lottery winners’ names be secret? States debate issue
The three lucky ones overcame the odd of 1 in 292.2 million. The winning ticket in Tennessee was sold in Munford, north of Memphis, according to a news release from lottery officials in that state. If tonight’s drawing doesn’t produce a victor, Saturday’s jackpot is expected to be worth more than $2 billion.

If someone matches all the winning numbers, the jackpot would be paid in annual payments over 29 years, or the victor could opt for a lump-sum payment of $930 million. Tennessee officials did not immediately say which of the three Munford stores offering Powerball tickets produced the victor. The California store won $1 million and the Publix won $100,000.
Getting such a windfall is the start of a “new journey” and the winners should be prepared with lawyers, accountants and financial planners before they come forward, California Lottery spokesman Russ Lopez said Thursday.
In addition, five other winning tickets worth $50,000 were sold in West Virginia.
At least one California resident is a whole lot richer after hitting the biggest lottery jackpot in history last night.
In November, a Tennessee ticket holder claimed a $144.1 million prize.
California Lottery spokesman Alex Traverso told The Associated Press early Thursday morning that the three previously announced winning tickets in the record $1.6 billion Powerball drawing represent all the grand-prize winners. The other winning tickets were sold at a 7-Eleven in Chino Hills, California, and a Publix supermarket in Melbourne Beach, Florida.
Michael Fahim, 48, real estate broker from Chino Hills, said he bought 20 lottery tickets Wednesday night just up the street.
“It was nice everyone in Chino Hills was cheering and excited”, he said.
While no location in MI sold a winning ticket for the record $1.586 billion jackpot on Wednesday, there were 767,149 winners total across the state – from the $4 winners to the million-dollar winners – out of 18.8 million total tickets sold.
Atwal said he owns four 7-Eleven stores, the others are in Yorba Linda, La Habra and Diamond Bar.

“I spent most of the night waking up everybody else in the house”, Windey said. “I wish it was me!” Hundreds of people crowded into the 7-Eleven store, chanting “Chino Hills!” “Our goal is to have a lot of people play a little bit”. Dalton reported from Los Angeles.
