Steelers coach Mike Tomlin announced that Golson, the Steelers second round draft pick, will be out indefinitely after having shoulder surgery on Friday morning.

Golson remains on the Physically Unable to Perform list after injuring the shoulder in mini-camp.

The Steelers host Green Bay in a preseason game on Sunday.

“We’ve known that surgery was probably necessary from the time that we got here”, Tomlin said.

If Golson is able to start practicing during that span of nine weeks, the Steelers will then have an additional three weeks from that point to evaluate him before deciding whether or not to activate to him the 53 man roster or place him on the season-ending injured reserve list.

“We had communicated with those guys for some time in that regard”, Tomlin said.

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN said Golson “could be out for the season after undergoing shoulder surgery” although Tomlin “wanted to discuss the situation with doctors before forecasting missed time”.

“I’ve played slot my entire career”, said Boykin. “The extent of that is really not a cookie-cutter discussion”.

At quarterback, Gradkowski is expected to make his 2015 debut after Ben Roethlisberger gives way. In addition to linebacker, Wild has also been working with the special teams unit.

“We expect to play more experienced players in special teams than we have in the first couple of opportunities”, said Tomlin. “We had some interest in Boykin regardless”.

The Steelers will break camp on Saturday after their final practice at Saint Vincent College on Friday afternoon. “The next part of that dream is making the active roster, the next step after that is playing in a game and the next step after that is winning a Super Bowl”.
