The announcement explains, “The final few steps of the Plague of Shadows content took a little longer than expected, but it was important to us that this update to be on the disc/cart right out of the box”.

Indie developer Yacht Club Games has delayed the retail version of its throwback platformer Shovel Knight, pushing its release date to November and raising its price to account for “an unexpected turn of events”. This decision was funded less by greed and more by exposure as several retailers told the studio that shelf space was a limited and that a game under $20 would only be featured in a bargain bin.
It’s okay, Yacht Club Games. It’s going to keep fighting for a retail release, but for now the Xbox One boxed version is in “indefinite limbo”.
“With extremely heavy hearts, we’re sad to announce there will not be an Xbox One physical version this holiday”, developer Yacht Club said.
In the meantime, the digital version of Shovel Knight is available to download!
While the retail version for Play Station 4, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo 3DS and Europe exclusive PC version release date has been pushed back.
The Vita version doesn’t seem to be dead just yet, thankfully.
However, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel as a digital soundtrack is being bundled with the game as an alternative to “paying what you want” to obtain it through the bandcamp website.
Additional updates planned for the game – such as Battle mode, the Specter Knight’s campaign, and King Knight’s campaign, among others – will also be available upon the release of the game, GameSpot noted.

“Shovel Knight”, which was released initially in June 2014, is “a sweeping classic action adventure game” with an “8-bit retro aesthetic” design, Yacht Club Games’ page for “Shovel Knight” indicated.
