“We’ll keep fighting to get a retail version on Xbox One”, it continued.

In a statement on the company’s blog, they cite “publishing policies on the platform that are totally beyond our control” has caused the game’s physical release to be cancelled.

For Xbox One owners, there’s worse news still: the boxed version of that console’s game is now cancelled altogether.

However, Shovel Knight is already digitally available on the Microsoft platform, and the game developer promises that Xbox One players will “continue to receive new updates” and full support. Yacht Club Games notes that the price increase will combat a common retailer practice of bargain-binning games priced at $20 and below.

“In an unexpected turn of events, we’ve had to raise the price of our game to $24.99”, it added. Physical releases for 3DS, Wii U, PlayStation 4, and PC (Europe only) are all releasing as planned.

First off, the release date has been pushed back due to wanting to ensure that the “Plague of Shadows” expansion being included on the discs and cartridges out of the box.

Shovel Knight’s retail release was originally scheduled for next week, but it’s just been delayed a fortnight. The other versions appear to be unaffected, though, with Yacht Club also mentioning they’re hard at work trying to figure out how to get a physical version for Vita happening too.

The price of Shovel Knight’s physical copy has been bumped up slightly as well. “Hang in there a bit longer, and hopefully we can make something happen!”
