It’s been six years since the last Shrek film, Shrek Forever After, hit theaters, but NBCUniversal announced that it plans to revive the franchise. It was followed in 2011 by Puss in Boots, a spinoff that also did better internationally.

DreamWorks Animation (DWA) has been enduring some noticeable transitions since Comcast recently struck a deal to purchase the company for the hefty price of $3.8 billion.

In addition to Shrek, DreamWorks Animation is also home to the How to Train Your Dragon series of films. The lovable ogre had four movies from 2001 to 2010, each making a ton of money, but DreamWorks Animation took a break after that. Though, it doesn’t sound like they know whether or not this new Shrek movie will be a sequel or a complete reboot. The second film, “Shrek 2”, was released in 2004 and earned $919.8 million. Deadline quotes him as saying that the acquisition moves up Comcast’s consumer products agenda by five years.
