More than 6 dozen police units are on the scene, and KSLA News 12 has learned that DeSoto Parish is also lending a helicopter in the search for the gunman, and a Special Response Team is now at a home in the 3400 block of Judson Street.

When the officers arrived at the home, they say the suspect opened fire and the officer was struck by multiple bullets.

Hines said the officer was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

Shreveport police could not immediately be reached for comment.

The Louisiana State Police, the U.S. Marshals Service and authorities from nearby parishes are assisting in the manhunt.

Officials would not identify the officer and did not provide a detailed description of the gunman. “Our request is that everyone pray for the family of the officer involved”, Hines added. Hines said a man inside a home on the block was armed and making threats toward a family member.

The officer’s death is the 20th this year at the hands of a violent suspect.
