Siemian, Lynch lead Broncos past Rams

After failing to tally points in the first quarter, he led the Broncos on a seven-play, 67-yard drive that ended with the former seventh-round pick lofting a one-yard touchdown pass to tight end Virgil Green.

“I’ve got a lot invested and a lot of work that I can make some decisions off of now”, Kubiak said after Saturday’s preseason game, via ESPN’s Jeff Legwold.

Jared Goff’s awkward samba toward the Rams’ starting quarterback job, a dance that might not end soon, had a couple deft steps Saturday, along with some two-left-feet stumbles.

“Case was going to be our starter since before the draft”.

“I’m impressed”, Kubiak said of his starter for the night.

QB depth chart: Siemian, who missed Tuesday’s practice with a sore right shoulder, looked confident and comfortable running the offense.

As a silver lining, none of the Rams’ quarterbacks threw an interception, though Denver’s Super Bowl winning defense did record six sacks on the day. On the business side, he would count $4.5 million against the salary cap and the Broncos don’t have to surrender a conditional draft pick to the Philadelphia Eagles if Sanchez is not on the roster to open the season.

Who got hurt: Running back C.J. Anderson sustained a head cut but stayed in.

Broncos’ receiver Cody Latimer said he is scheduled to have an MRI on his left knee Sunday. To be fair, Lynch was playing with backups and the Broncos used a run-heavy approach featuring Devontae Booker and Ronnie Hillman.

Trevor Siemian, the second-year quarterback who has been one of the biggest National Football League stories of the summer, on Saturday night appeared to solidify his victory in the race to be the Broncos’ next starting quarterback. Hillman is still going to have a hard time making this roster, but he has done his best work of the preseason in the past two weeks.

After starting 2-0 in the preseason, the Rams struggled to get anything going on offense against the Broncos as they failed to find the end zone even once despite three appearances in the red zone. Of course, it was all against the San Francisco Forty-Niner’s second and third-string defenses.

Jordan Taylor: Another player who will be among the Broncos’ final roster decisions. Keenum was clearly not going to turn upfield. Given that Sanchez is a veteran, they could decide they know enough about his game already. He scored 10 TDs last season, tied with Gurley for most on the team. They were targeted 12 times (only eight were catchable) and finished with seven receptions combined for 108 yards.

Alexys Graff of Colorado Springs had a birthday request of Denver Broncos linebacker Shane Ray prior to the preseason game with the Los Angeles Rams at Sports Authority Field at Mile High on Saturday, August 27, 2016. The drive was extended by a penalty on cornerback Bradley Roby for an illegal hit on a defenseless receiver. The Broncos also used rookie safety Justin Simmons in their dime package when the starters were in the game.

Eager to establish the run game early, Siemian handed the ball off for the first two drives, both of which were three-and-outs and totaled only 12 yards.

Keenum also played four series and went 8 for 12 for 77 yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions.
