Vaccination began (Tuesday)” in the localities in the north where the victim, a student of 22 years, Marie Jalloh, went before his death on January 12 Magburaka”, head of medical services of Sierra Leone, Brima Kargbo said.
The new outbreak has spurred the country to reopen its Ebola treatment centers, and relaunch screening systems including checkpoints on highways, Agence France-Presse reports.
West Africa had recently declared the end of what was the world’s worst Ebola outbreak and killed 11,300 people in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone in West Africa since December 2013.
More than 100 people have been quarantined in Sierra Leone, 28 of whom were high-risk cases after coming in direct contact with Mariatu Jalloh. “We are expecting other cases particularly from those who washed the body before the burial of [Mariatu]”, he said.
“Some of those quarantined barricaded their homes, saying the vaccine was harmful and could lead to other ailments”, one of them said.
Before the most recent cases, Liberia, the last country in the region to be declared Ebola-free, had 42 consecutive days without any reported cases of the virus.
“The patient is being treated now”, Jasarevic said.
Ebola is at its most infectious as people are dying or in the bodies of those who have died from the virus.
Jasarevic told AFP that Sierra Leone has taken all the necessary steps following the new flare-up.

The new case is its second in less than a week, marking a further setback in efforts to end the deadly West African Ebola outbreak.
