Signs point to Pence as Trump’s VP pick
Donald Trump was on the verge of announcing his vice presidential pick Thursday, with Indiana Gov. Mike Pence emerging as the late favorite.

State law obligates Pence to give up his place as the Republican gubernatorial nominee to run for vice president, something Pence is expected to make official prior to Friday’s 11 a.m. Region time withdrawal deadline.
He’s from rural Indiana. Pence, 57, is on a shortlist of four people whom Trump has been vetting privately and publicly, as only Trump can, through joint campaign appearances.
Trump and Pence have met frequently throughout the past week, fueling suspicion that he would fill the position.
“Pence really balances out the ticket and offers more of a wide base of appeal than Trump has just by himself”, Albright said.
Campaign chair Paul Manafort was among those urging caution in assuming any decision on Thursday, saying on Twitter that Trump’s choice “will be made in the near future”. He won by a slim margin and was running for re-election to a second term when Donald Trump came calling. They say no decision has been announced.
Indiana Governor Mike Pence is required by law to officially remove his name from the Indiana ballot by noon on July 15.
Trump had planned to hold his first event with his running mate Friday morning in NY. “It’s kind of like the odd couple, Pence will be quiet and reserved and Trump will still be voracious and it’s okay, either way we all support Donald Trump”.
“I would think it’s going to happen before we go to Cleveland”, he said.
“I think obviously Mr. Trump’s personality is a global concern, but I think the Governor will play a large role with his great speaking skills, as well as his connection to different parts of the party in America”, Merritt said.
“It’s no secret I’m a big fan of Mike Pence”.
Trump is spending the day in California, attending fundraisers in the Los Angeles area while his potential running mates awaited word on the other coast.
On Wednesday, Trump and his children threw together a hasty series of conversations with other finalists in the vice-presidential search, including Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey, Sen. He’s generally well liked but you may have heard his name surfacing previous year when he made national headlines after signing a controversial religious freedom bill.
