Simone Biles is the gymnastics gold standard, Aly Raisman is the glue
Both women brought home historic wins for the US with Simone Manuel being the first black woman ever to win an individual gold in swimming and Simone Biles being the second black woman ever to win a gold medal for individual all-around gymnastics.

In the first few years of her life, her Mum was unable to care for Simone and her siblings, and so she was adopted when she was five, by her grandparents, Ronald and Nellie.
Biles’ talent is unmistakable, but it took time to harness. No other gymnast has won more than two world championships in a row.
That’s because gold has been out of reach for everyone but Biles for three years and counting.
In a long-beloved ritual for U.S. Olympic champions, Kellogg’s said on Friday that the faces of Biles and her team mates would appear on boxes of Special K breakfast cereal.
In an interview, she stated, “Every emotion hit me at once, so I was just kind of a train wreck”.
Simone Biles performs her routine during the artistic gymnastics women’s individual all-around final event. This medal is not just for me but for the African-Americans who came before me…and for the people who come behind me. Now, he’s the oldest swimmer of any nationality to win an individual gold medal. That’s not true. I work just as hard as everybody else and I want to win just like everybody else. “One little thing and you’re off”, Raisman told NPR. She hasn’t lost an all-around competition since the spring of 2013, claiming three world titles and four USA crowns in the process.
American Kayla Harrison defended her Olympic judo title in the women’s 78-kilogram division. Before that round there were even questions about whether Raisman would get the chance to do all around, but she was given the fourth and final spot on bars over Laurie Hernandez, which gave her the opportunity to compete for another chance at an all-around medal.
Douglas said her teammates “did an awesome job”. I’m more happy for her than I am myself’. “Now it’s time to go and continue to add to the legacy off the mat and try and change the world”.
Her coach says Simone can learn a new skill in three days, whereas other gymnasts can take months or even years to master a new move.

In Lochte’s only individual swim in the summer games, Phelps surged to victory and the gold medal, becoming the only swimmer to win four consecutive gold medals in the same Olympic event. “I want young boys and girls all over the world to feel fearless and to know there is a light at the end of the tunnel and to know there is a shiny gold medal”, she said.
