Simone Biles’ run at history ends with bronze in beam finals

Biles has another chance at a fourth gold medal during the last individual event, the floor exercise, which takes place Tuesday. Biles already has become the first US gymnast to win three golds at a single Olympics and added a bronze in the balance beam Monday.

“She was the spine of the team in 2012, spine of the team here, the most trusted gymnast”.

Biles was attempting a front tuck about halfway through her routine when her left foot landed on the edge of the beam.

“I knew that the gold was out of the question so the silver for me genuinely feels like the gold medal”, Raisman said, “so I was so happy and so proud”. Mary Lou Retton did in 1984, and Nastia Liukin did it in 2008. “I see it as a triumph, and she won a bronze medal on beam at the Olympics”. But that kind of gymnastics has gone. “I just went out there with a calm and collected mindset and just ready to compete my routine”, she said. Nastia Liukin explained how the Dutch gymnast was calculating the value of her routine to make sure she got the proper score. She will be joining Larisa Latynina, Vera Caslavska and Ecaterina Szabo as the only women to win four gold medals in a single Olympics. Retton sailed through the Olympic Trials but, in an event that would not have happened these days, was allowed to appear in a post-trials exhibition and suffered a knee injury that required arthroscopic surgery six weeks before the games.

Biles was a favorite heading into the event, who has been almost flawless in Rio- picking up team, all-around and vault gold.

Texas athletes fared remarkably well during the first week of the Olympics, reports Texas Monthly. “I’m going to pretend there’s nobody there”.

Now, instead of a coronation for Felix, it’s a celebration for Miller, who finished second to the American at last year’s world championships.

“She doesn’t even look at the judges”, Haney said.

Without question, she is doing the best gymnastics of her life.

Becoming the most honored female USA track star with her seventh medal will be small consolation for Felix, said NBC’s Sanya Richards-Ross, who called her courageous for coming back from an injury.

“All my problems came after I had my babies”. She wobbled and grabbed onto the beam to regain her balance. “It was a doozy, but I’m recovering”. An impressed Tom Hammond said afterward, “She’ll be back”. And we trained hard – 70 vaults a day onto hard surfaces.

Probably not, but the smirk on his face in one photo is just priceless. “But after I saw her I said “maybe play it safe”. “It’s not like today, when you get the results before they appear on television. That made it special for people”.

“I don’t know who decided that”, Bolt said. It really is home.
