The 19-year-old gymnast, meanwhile, opened with an Amanar and moved to the Cheng for her second turn, according to the Times.

“There is a lot of satisfaction that I have a winning gold on vault finally”, she told Us Weekly. “Hopefully I can continue that in the finals, but I feel like my first vault can still be a little bit better”. Biles was born in OH to a drug and alcohol addicted mother and was bounced around in foster care, until she and her younger sister Adria, were adopted by their grandparents when Simone was just six years old. It doesn’t matter the color that much.

And in a huge surprise, American Simone Manuel tied for a gold medal in the one hundred meter women’s freestyle with Canada’s Penny Oleksiak in Olympic record time.

On Monday, she is scheduled to compete in the balance beam event and on Tuesday she will compete in the floor exercises.

Fellow gymnast and silver-medallist Alexander spoke in praise of her fellow teammate, saying: “No-one goes into this thinking they can beat Simone”. You can watch Biles again on Sunday in the individual vault final.

But that doesn’t bother Raisman.

Simone Biles, a young gymnast from OH, is out there making history at the Rio Olympics.

Raisman took more than a year off before deciding to come back, and that return had its rocky moments.

But Karolyi and Brestyan turned the experience into a positive, and it launched her into this season. Her score of 16.033 for her “Cheng” was the best of the night. Smith won bronze at the 2008 Olympics, the first Olympic medal in 80 years for a British gymnast, and silver at the 2012 Olympics in the pommel horse.

“This felt very different to when I was doing the team event”, said Shirai, who helped Japan to the team title. See what celebrities had to say about them both below. “So I’m happy I proved everyone wrong”. “It’s something that I wanted so badly”, she said.

That has been true in Rio. Meanwhile, Simone Biles and Aly Raisman slayed it in the Individual All-Around with Simone taking the gold and Aly the silver.
