Simone Biles Wins Third Olympic Gold Medal in Vault, Gabby Douglas Stumbles

The two Simones inspired the hashtag #BlackGirlMagic as fans applauded their victories on social media.

For just the second time in Olympics swimming history, a dead heat.

The charismatic “Flo Jo” won three golds in Seoul – in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m races – before shocking the world by retiring the following year aged 29.

While the day may belong to Whitlock, the games belong to Biles.

Aly’s parents appeared on Today alongside gymnast Simone BIles’ folks, Ronald and Nellie. But where Biles lacks, she makes up for immensely in other places. While taking part in the reality TV show I’m A Celebrity, Adlington broke down as she described how the constant sniping made her uncomfortable with her own body.

“I just wanted to stick a vault so badly here and it didn’t happen”, Biles said. Asked if she considers herself the same on uneven bars, Mustafina smiled and said “well, now I think yes”.

“When I first came back, all the media and everyone looked at me like I was insane that I was really going to come back”, said Raisman.

Perhaps we’ve just been introduced to two members of #TeamUSA in the 2032 Olympics. “I feel like I did my job tonight”.

We’ll update this post with news from the event in Brazil (so be careful if you don’t want spoilers). She held on for a bronze medal behind Maria Paseka of Russian Federation. She would earn a 15.666 at the all-around event on bars. Biles will compete vault on Sunday, beam on Monday and will try to dethrone Raisman on floor Tuesday. Balance beam and floor exercise – where Biles is the defending world champion – lay in wait.

And Manuel hopes she can just be a swimmer and a champion without her race being a factor.

Not Raisman. During her very first competition back in March 2015, she was not only back to her level of difficulty on floor from her Olympic title-winning routine in London, she had exceeded it. “I never thought I would be in this position but I’m so blessed and honored to be on the medal stand”. It’s for a whole bunch of people that came before me and have been an inspiration to me. Don’t believe me? Check out this tweet by ESPN.

Manuel also has a silver medal to her name. She’s dominated the sport for the past four years and many have deemed her the greatest gymnast to ever live.

For a person that has been through so much all her life, her fight and persistence will keep her on top. But her path to get here has been a long one.

Phelps wowed the crowd with an incredible golden performance in the men’s 200-meter individual medley. They’ll get a few days off, but then it’s back to the floor for event finals.

The 145cm tall gymnast took home gold in five different categories, proving you don’t need to be massive to make your mark in the Olympics. Last year, Simone and Gabby were #1 and #2. 20-year-old Simone Manuel tied with Canada’s Penny Oleksiak for the gold medal in the 100-meter freestyle. No medals. Not since becoming an International Olympic Committee member in the 1950s.

Sure, there are other rugby titles already on the Fiji resume, but to win the first gold medal ever handed out for rugby is an overwhelmingly special moment for the rugby-crazed nation.

It’s in the hole, it’s in the hole! So, surprisingly, is Great Britain’s.
