Simone Manuel and Penny Oleksiak Tie – From Underwater

Simone Manuel of the United States, who won 100 freestyle gold in a dead-heat with Canada’s Penny Oleksiak, was just 0.02 behind for silver while Aliaksandra Herasimenia of Belarus took the bronze in 24.11. It was the first round of golf played at the Olympics since Canadian George S. Lyon won gold at the 1904 St. Louis Games.

Instead, it was Manuel – her fingernails painted red, white and blue – who touched at the same time as 16-year-old Oleksiak, the youngest swimmer in the field.

Beyond winning four medals, including gold, and becoming the most decorated Canadian Olympian at a single Summer Games, there’s been a phone call from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, congratulating her on her accomplishments, and even a personal social media shout out from Toronto rapper Drake.

Canada now faces Britain on Saturday morning with a shot at the gold-medal final on the line, while the USA will line up against Australia.

Most people don’t end up at the Olympics.

Carlo said the local BIA is part of a working group that has been formed to organize the special event, which will likely take place after the Summer Olympics which run until August 21.

Her mother Alison said they’ll cross that bridge when they come to it. “I trained really hard this year, but I didn’t think I could do what I did”.

Russian Yulia Efimova, a controversial figured allowed to compete despite recording two positive drug tests, was runner-up in the 200 breaststroke to get her second silver medal in Rio. I’m just the same Simone. “If we try to make her into a pro and make her be 100% focused on this, she’s not going to do it for a long time”.

Thanks to the video linked below, however, we can see an entire race from beneath the water – and that race just-so-happens to be 0ne for an Olympic gold medal.

And Karolyi, who will retire after many years coaching the US’ top gymnasts after Rio, predicted great things for her young prodigy.

But Oleksiak entered these Games a kid; she is a star, now.

Her coach, Ben Titley, figures Oleksiak could become a household name each four years for the foreseeable future. Swimming has gone somewhere new in Canada, too.

She said DECA felt it was important to let Oleksiak and all of the incredible east-end Olympians known the community supports them and celebrates all of their hard work.
