Simone Manuel overcome with emotion after historic swim for America

American swimmer Simone Manuel spoke out about the United States’ police brutality controversy after claiming a historic gold medal in the 100-meter freestyle at the Rio Olympics on Thursday night.

As Raisman came off floor, she sobbed and waved to the crowd.

“I told her before today, I want you to win and I want second”, Raisman said. “I mean it is what it is.” said Biles.

Biles still has the opportunity to leave Rio with five gold medals.

“No one goes in thinking they can beat Simone”, Raismansaid. Biles took first and Raisman placed second at the all-around competition last Sunday.

It’s only the second time that two USA gymnasts have finished 1-2 in an Olympic all-around.

Biles, Raisman and the rest of the women’s team won the team gold medal Tuesday, giving Team USA back-to-back Olympic golds.

Raisman started off on the vault, earning a 15.63 after a slight hop on the landing.

Halfway through the competition, Mustafina led the two US gymnasts after a dominant performance on uneven bars, also Biles’ weakest event.

The beauty of her expression, however, is that she’s correct in saying she deserved to get the win and her race should not be the first thing people notice but rather her formidable athletic ability.

Tearful teammates then clutched each other as they waited for the scores – Biles scoring highest (15.933) after also topping the vault and the beam. “I’m the first Simone Biles”. But her character is what will catapult her through life, much further than gymnastics – or even Olympic gold.

“It’s very special to finally be on the podium”. “No matter what, at the end of the day we’re basically like sisters and we’ll always have this moment forever”.

Instead, Oleksiak and Manuel made history, becoming just the second pair to share 100m freestyle gold at the Olympics.

“It’s a pleasure to compete against Simone, but it’s very, very hard”. I don’t think it’s sunk in. Her gravity-defying routines are so hard that she is predicted to walk away with each and every one of them. Only two competitors can compete per nation in the final.
