Rio de Janeiro: Denmark’s Pernille Blume beat the favourites to win the 50 metres freestyle in 24.07 seconds on Saturday and give her country a first Olympic swimming gold medal since 1948. Manuel, 20, touched in 24.09.
Manuel finished in 24.09 on Saturday, behind Denmark’s Pernille Blume (24.07).
Later on the last night of swimming at the Olympics, Manuel won a second gold as she swam the anchor leg as past of the US women’s winning 4×100-meter medley relay team – and reached a milestone for the United States.
