Simone soars to gold, lands atop women’s gymnastics for all time
In 2013, she faltered badly at the U.S. Classic gymnastics meet, falling, stumbling, twisting her ankle and eventually withdrawing.

Biles’ difficulty score is so insanely high that virtually no other gymnast- now or in the history of the sport- can touch her. Solid displays on the beam and floor took her to a total of 56.883, just outside the top 10. Raisman also wrote that she received the “sweetest text” from 20-year-old teammate Gabby Douglas. Meanwhile, Simone Biles and Aly Raisman slayed it in the Individual All-Around with Simone taking the gold and Aly the silver.
“I wouldn’t call fifth in the world a failure”, she said.
Biles went ahead after the first of four disciplines with a score of 15.866 on vault, although she dropped back to second following an effort of 14.966 on the uneven bars, with Mustafina moving into the lead at the halfway point.
JaVe Bonner, a pre-med student at George Mason University, said Manuel’s win is significant to her because she was told when she was younger that she couldn’t go into a neighborhood pool since her skin was “dirty”.
Max Whitlock became the first gymnast from Great Britain to win Olympic gold by edging Brazil’s Diego Hypolito in the men’s floor exercise final.
Given that she’s the reigning world champ on floor and beam and upgraded vault after winning bronze at last year’s worlds, she could leave Rio with more gold than some royal families.
This is the second gold for the 19-year-old USA gymnast in Rio, but she still has a chance to win three others in various events, reports Efe.
Her reaction after the race was even better.
Biles herself as won the past three all-around competitions at the world championships.
Now, two years later, 19-year-old Biles has won all-around gold at the Olympic Games – and the jeers coming from her critics has been replaced with cheers. Raised by her grandmother and grandfather, she was encouraged not to allow anything or anyone to stop her from attaining success. After leading the United States women to the all-around team gold medal, Biles returned for the individual all-around, and it wasn’t much of a contest.
“I was thinking, ‘I’ve finally done it, ‘ and when that hits you, you can’t stop the emotions”, said Biles.

With her victory in the 100-meter freestyle, she became the first African-American woman to win an Olympic gold medal in swimming. “It doesn’t even feel real. And if they put a lot effort into it, then I can do it too”, said Little. She’s expected to obliterate her competition in three of next week’s apparatus finals.
