Sindhu kindled new hope in every young Indian: Sonia

The two finalists hug after the match. With another gold piece to go with her collection of medallion bling, Marin became the new Olympic women’s badminton champ, leaving Sindhu with a shiny, second-place silver.

After a hard-fought summit clash which lasted one hour and 20 minutes, with fortunes fluctuating dramatically, Sindhu was beaten 21-19, 12-21, 15-21 by World No.1 Carolina Marin of Spain.

Despite finishing a notch higher with a silver medal at the Olympics as compared to her senior colleague Saina Nehwal, who had bagged a bronze at the 2012 London Games, Sindhu stayed grounded and said, “It’s a different comparison”.

In the end though, Marin was the better player and deservedly won the match, leaving Sindhu with a silver medal.

But despite all this heartbreak, Sindhu wasn’t despondent. “Overall it was a very good match and I’m on cloud nine right now”, she added.

This moment of greatness surely deserves a medal greater than gold – platinum maybe.

Moving along to the history of PV Sindhu, She was born July 5, 1995 with Indian Nationality.

“My life has certainly changed now after this silver”, Sindhu reacted after the victory ceremony.

Sindhu bounced back in the first set from behind to win it 21-19.

A recipient of Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian award, Sindhu has been coached by Indian badminton legend Pullela Gopichand – a former world number four in men’s badminton and victor of the 2001 All England Badminton Championships. At the halfway of the second game, Marin was leading 11-2 against the Indian opponent.

The third and final game was locked at 10 10 before Marin went 14 10 ahead. “I’m really happy for her”, he exclaimed”. “She truly deserved it”, said Ramana.

Japan s Nozomi Okuhara was awarded bronze after being given a walkover against China s defending champion Li Xuerui, who was injured in her semi-final defeat to Marin on Thursday.
