They are part of a group of eight detained in April under Singapore’s Internal Security Act, because of their support for the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and their readiness to use violence overseas, the Ministry of Home Affairs had said.

Rahman Mizanur, 31, who was identified as the ringleader, was sentenced to 60 months in prison; Miah Rubel, 26, and Md Jabath Kysar Haje Norul Islam Sowdagar, 31, were both sentenced to 30 months; and Sohel Hawlader Ismail Hawlader, 29, received 24 months.
“The Straits Times” reported on July 12, 2016, that four young Bangladeshi workers were sentenced in Singapore in connection with ISIS.
The 4, who pleaded guilty and could have been jailed for up to 10 years, were the first to be convicted under a Singaporean law against terrorist financing.
State prosecutors said the group formed an organization called the Islamic State of Bangladesh (ISB) which also planned to overthrow the Bangladeshi government “by means of an armed struggle in order to establish part of the caliphate in Bangladesh”.
Daulat claimed he did not know the money he contributed would be used for terrorism activities.
A Singapore court jailed four Bangladeshi men for between two and five years for terrorism financing on Tuesday in a case that has put the city-state’s most marginalised migrant-worker community in the spotlight. “This is my very big mistake sir”.
District Judge Kessler Soh said in handing down the sentences that terrorism presents a “threat not just to our community but the worldwide community at large”. I am very remorseful.
“I wanted to learn my religion but they show me the wrong way, the wrong activities”, Mizanur said in court. Terrorism financing and any act in support of terrorism must be condemned and deterred. Each member had sworn an oath to follow ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi till their death, and held specific roles and responsibilities, the court was told.
In all, the six had contributed sums of $60 to $500 to the cause. Charges against the men stated amounts ranging from S$60 to S$1,360.
