To ensure safety, several computer engineers of nuTonomy backed-up human drivers during the trial phase in the event anything went wrong. Singapore has recently unveiled its first trial of autonomous taxis, offering to take customers to their desired locations.

Ride-sharing giant Uber said last week that it would be launching driverless cars in the USA city of Pittsburgh by the end of August.

Each auto will have a safety engineer sitting behind the wheel to take control of the vehicle as needed and answer questions.

Developer nuTonomy invited a select group of people to download their app and ride for free in its “robo-taxi” in a western Singapore hi-tech business district, hoping to get feedback ahead of a planned full launch of the service in 2018.

With this trial, nuTonomy will gather and analyze data generated in order to track the performance, vehicle routing efficiency, the vehicle booking process, and the overall passenger experience. And now it has signed deal with nuTonomy, thus, it seems that Singapore is all set to welcome and execute the concept of driverless cars. Singapore is also eyeing to grow its economy and has been supportive enough for autonomous vehicle research. The companies have announced the partnership to join automotive companies like Ford, BMW and Tesla in driving towards a driverless vehicle experience. The company is now ready to get the public in its cars, starting with two vehicles in the north end of the city.

Earlier this month, nuTonomy was selected by the Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA) as an R&D partner, to support the development of a commercial AV service in Singapore.
