Singer Chris Brown arrested after standoff at LA home

In a statement outside the star’s home, Lieutenant Chris Ramirez of the Los Angeles Police Department said: “He is being transported to robbery homicide, where he will be arrested for assault with a deadly weapon”.

Chris reportedly refused to leave his home after police and a SWAT team arrived, and posted videos of himself on Instagram, saying: “f**** the police”.

Officers first responded to his hilltop estate around 3am on Tuesday local time after a woman called for help from outside the residence.

Police were waiting for a judge to approve a search warrant for the home in the San Fernando Valley area, Officer Lyle Knight told The Associated Press.

In fresh footage, Brown, who was wearing a white T-shirt, red cap and jeans, could be seen peacefully leaving his building 11 hours later with his lawyer Mark Geragos.

Police said Brown was being taken to LAPD headquarters where he will be arrested, according to KNBC.

Earlier Tuesday, a woman called police, claiming that Brown had pointed a gun to her face after a verbal altercation when she admired diamond-studded jewelry.

The stand-off and subsequent media attention provided a chaotic scene in the balmy and typically quiet neighbourhood of Tarzana as police closed off nearby streets and rerouted traffic.

Chris Brown is posting online videos declaring his innocence as police seek a warrant to search the singer’s home after receiving a call from a woman there seeking assistance. They declined to identify themselves or answer questions from the media about what occurred.

Brown has been in repeated legal trouble since his felony conviction in the 2009 assault of his then-girlfriend, Rihanna.

In 2013, he was charged with assault after striking a man outside a hotel in Washington DC. After several missteps, he completed his probation in that case previous year.

Brown was ordered to attend a rehabilitation centre as a result, but was then kicked out of the facility for breaking its rules.

In another incident while in treatment, Brown was accused of throwing a brick at his mother’s vehicle following a counseling session. It came after Brown completed court-ordered anger management classes.
