Fuentes got into his vehicle with friends in the 4300 block of South Archer Avenue, and an armed man suddenly walked up and ordered Fuentes to get out, then shot him, according to the police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Friends of Fuentes in Chicago said they were holding a vigil and memorial for the singer at his studio in Chicago on Saturday evening.

“It’s really hard for us to hear”, said friend Vanessa Fuentes.

Fuentes is known in the city as a talented singer and actor from Guadelejara, who was a 2011 finalist on Mexico’s version of “The Voice” and had a weekly show on Radio Vive. “We love him and everybody is concerned about it”, said Anacelly Nava, Fuentes’ friend. Although some of the victim’s friends say they believe he was targeted because nothing was taken, police continue to investigate. “Instead of taking the light, he was putting the light on all those guys”.

Miguel Sanchez tells WLS-TV that his critically wounded friend is in a “big battle for his life”.

“He did not deserve this at all”, Fuentes said. “They really wanted to get him”.

He died Saturday afternoon after he was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, WGN reported.
