Siri ‘Butt Dial’ Saves Man’s Life
But as Siri recently proved, even fake humans can sometimes save lives.

Siri, Apple’s artificial intelligence assistant, recognized the man’s voice and was activated after he used his butt to confirm that he needed to make a command.
According to USA Today, he tried several times to call 911 through Siri since his phone was in his back pocket, where he couldn’t reach. She can get directions, a good spot to eat in a pinch, and much more. That’s when he heard the familiar sound of Siri in his back pocket-he had butt-dialed her.
At first, Rutherford County dispatcher Christina Lee believed she was hearing an inadvertent a butt dial. “So I got underneath there and located the noise”.
Sam says he remembers praying for help, when he heard Siri’s voice from behind him. Once firefighters were on the scene, they freed Ray and he was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, about 40 miles away.
Help arrived in the form of a volunteer firefighter, who propped up the truck with a jack.
What can I help you with?
The unnamed man said that he manged to “push up on his hip” and then effect a 911 call. Siri appears to understand various emergency-related commands, such as “call” “cops” “police” and “emergency services”.
Dusty Ray, Sam’s father, recalled getting a phone call from his son and telling him not to work under the vehicle when no one was at home.
He escaped with relatively minor injuries, suffering three broken ribs, a bruised kidney, a cut on the forehead and and second and third degree burns to the arm that was stuck under the truck’s the exhaust pipe.

A month after the traumatic experience, Ray continues his recovery. “I owe them that”.
