SIU investigates police-involved shooting at Yonge and Dundas

Gennaro says police arrived around 6 a.m. and there was a confrontation in which “several” shots were fired, injuring a 39-year-old man.

The SIU says police were initially called about a stabbing near Yonge and Dundas around 5:30 a.m.

The Special Investigation Unit has been called after a police were involved in a shooting near Yonge and Dundas Monday morning.

A 39 year old male was found with gunshot wounds in the Yonge and Bay area and rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The stabbing sent a 66 year old man to hospital but he has since been treated and released.

“Motivation is certainly something we’re looking at as we try to determine what transpired in the moments before the police shooting”, Gennaro said.

Gennaro said the SIU has assigned seven investigators and three forensics investigators to the case.

The SIU plans to canvass area businesses to see if the incidents were caught on security cameras.

Toronto police service would not comment further because of the SIU’s involvement.

De Kloet says police can not comment any further on the incident, as the SIU is investigating.

The 505 Dundas and 506 Carlton streetcars have also been diverted.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency investigating incidents involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
