Six American Soldiers Killed In Afghanistan
On Monday, Taliban forces in Helmand closed in on the district of Sangin as they tightened their grip on the volatile southern province. It is thought around 65 percent of Helmand province is under the control of insurgents. Muhajid also said that 13 Afghan forces were killed in Marja, another critical district of Helmand.

This comes after Helmand’s deputy governor, Mohammad Jan Rasoulyar, said that the situation in Helmand was dire and that if immediate action was not taken, the entire province could fall under Taliban control.
U.S. Secretary of Defense expressed his regret in a statement for the six American soldiers being killed and two others wounded in the incident.
Monday’s suicide bombing represents one of the deadliest attacks since the USA officially ended its combat mission in Afghanistan in December 2104.
The Helmand governor and police dismissed Taliban reports that it now controlled Sangin as “totally false”.
However, he said he does not believe more combat forces are needed – what is needed is support.
Carter said the attack served as a “painful reminder of the dangers our troops face everyday in Afghanistan”.
The aim is to end more than 14 years of war with the Taliban, who held power in Afghanistan until 2001 but were overthrown in a US-backed campaign for harbouring the Al Qaeda leaders behind the September 11 attacks.
Mr Dawood said that, within the previous month, 365 fatal accidents dead and injured had been endured by security forces in the district.
Nicholas Haysom said Afghan troops are “stretched to capacity” and need better logistics, administration and efforts to boost morale.
Even though most of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation forces left Afghanistan in 2014, around 9,800 U.S. troops and nearly 4,000 North Atlantic Treaty Organisation forces remain in Afghanistan. Gen. William Shoffner, head of public affairs at NATO’s Resolute Support base in the Afghan capital Kabul, said in a statement.
The area is close to the USA base in the Bagram district of northern Parwan province.
However, by Monday night much of the town was thought to be under Taliban control.
Local residents reported crippling food shortages in the district, long seen as a hornet’s nest of insurgent activity, after the Taliban began storming government buildings on Sunday.
It is also a main centre for opium production, meaning potential revenue for the Taliban from the drugs trade.
Coalition deaths have dropped significantly as foreign forces in the country have withdrawn troops and focused more on training the Afghan security forces, who have taken over most of the day-to-day fighting. He told reporters the Afghan air force had conducted 160 combat and transport flights over Sangin in the past 48 hours.

The latest unrest came as the United Nations envoy to Afghanistan warned that the country would need to prove itself worthy of global support in the coming year, with worldwide resources stretched to the limit amid a series of humanitarian crises.
