Athens has also asked European Union partners to check whether Turkey has fulfilled a recent agreement over stemming the migrant flow to re-admit migrants who do not qualify as refugees. Lebanon has one million Syrian refugees itself, Jordan 600,000. Brussels vowed to provide €3bn (£2.2bn), as well as political concessions, to Ankara in return for its cooperation in tackling Europe’s worst refugee crisis since the second world war.
