The CHP told CBS Los Angeles the chase began in Orange County when officers noticed the suspect’s vehicle on the shoulder of the 91 Freeway.

There were no injuries to anyone in the trucks or cars and no fuel spill at the scene, he said, but the crash tied up traffic on the southbound 710 Freeway for hours.

At 9:40 p.m., a second PIT maneuver by a CHP vehicle sent the driver spinning into the center divider and the auto came to a rest in the fast lane.

Eventually the driver slowed and officers were able to get the auto to spin out and stop. Authorities said there were three other dogs in the auto that did not flee. After the driver climbed out, three dogs ran out of the auto and onto the blocked freeway.

Officers began to chase to dogs outside the vehicle.

The woman was taken into custody, and ABC 7 reports that all of the dogs were taken in by animal control officials. The 710 Freeway reopened shortly after the dogs were collected.
