Six hurt in Virginia high school chemistry lab fire

Two students have been flown to the burn center at Washington Hospital Center and another three were taken to a hospital by ambulance after a fire broke out at a chemistry classroom at Fairfax’s W.T. Woodson High School.

“It was a science laboratory, a classroom”, Dan Schmidt of Fairfax County Fire told News4.

School officials say a hazardous materials team is onsite, and the building has not yet been cleared.

Additional details were not immediately released.

The students were transported to an area hospital but the extent of their injuries are unavailable at this time.

This morning, we evacuated the building after a fire occurred in a chemistry classroom.

“Anything to take precautionary measures is, I think, the recommended route when it comes to the safety of children and students”, Schmidt said.

Live news reports showed students streaming from the school and assembling near a football stadium. He said they haven’t been told when they’ll be let off the bus.

The parents of the injured students have been notified. Students will be dismissed at 12:55 p.m.

Victim transported to the hospital after a fire in a high school classroom
