Six Israelis injured in stabbings; Palestinian killed

Four new stabbings wounded Israelis Thursday and one of the assailants was killed as the continuing attacks defied attempts by authorities to contain Palestinian unrest.

The announcement followed Wednesday.’s attack in Jerusalem’s Old City where an Israeli civilian shot a Palestinian lady after she stabbed him, in accordance to Israeli cops officers & medical officers.

However, Israel and the West Bank witnessed more incidents of violence on Wednesday, including three stabbings and an Arab shot dead by the police.

As part of Mr Netanyahu’s pledged steps to stem what he termed a “wave of terrorism”, Israeli forces destroyed the homes of two Palestinians involved in attacks past year. Including Thursday’s incidents, six Palestinians have been killed in the unrest.

The Palestinian Red Crescent ambulance service said that 288 Palestinians had been hurt in yesterday’s clashes, including 10 by live fire.

Leaders on both sides have called for their people to put an end to the bloodshed.

At the heart of the recent tensions is a hilltop compound revered by Muslims and Jews.

Many fear that Israel will change rules governing the site.

The Israel Defense Forces said the clashes in Gaza took place when “200 Palestinians approached the security fence in the Northern Gaza Strip”. In the Israeli city of Dimona, in the Negev desert, south of the West Bank, four people were injured with stab wounds Friday morning, a police spokeswoman said. He said Jewish parliamentarians “infiltrated and caused provocations, and because of them there is an escalation; not because of Arab parliamentarians and worshippers who are entering the Mosque of Al-Aqsa”.

But the attacks have spread beyond Jerusalem and the West Bank, the historical hot spots. Yesterday’s Old City attack not far from the mosque compound, police said that an 18-year-old Palestinian woman stabbed a 35-year-old Jewish man in the back and lightly wounded him.

In 2000, then-opposition leader Ariel Sharon visited the Temple Mount known to Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary a provocative move widely seen as having helped ignite the second Palestinian intifada.

In a backlash from Israeli parliamentarians to the ruling that would allow Israeli-Arab politicians to visit the Temple Mount, Netanyahu extended the ban to Arab politicians early Thursday. The European Union foreign affairs chief also said that the perpetrators of the recent terror attacks against Israelis must be brought to justice.

The PRCS added that 189 Palestinians also suffered excessive tear gas inhalation. A few Israeli mayors, including the mayor of Jerusalem, went as far as to encourage residents who own guns to carry them around with them.

Meanwhile, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said in a meeting Thursday that Palestinians will not be “dragged” into more violence with Israel.

At least two store owners who sell personal protection devices and weapons told Israeli media that there had been a sharp increase in demand for hand guns and pepper spray.
