Robert D. Ross, 73, of Louisville, Ky.
Police say they will not release the names of the passengers and crew who were killed in the incident until they have notified their next of kin.
Emma Borinstein was a sophomore at the school.
He said his grandson Luke Borinstein had just completed his first year at Wabash College, an all-male liberal arts college in IN, and was interested in medicine.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
The aircraft departed Louisville, Kentucky, on Friday morning and stopped in Shelbyville, Indiana, before heading to its final destination of Shannon Airport.
The victims of Friday’s light plane crash near Shannon Airport in Fredericksburg have been identified, and investigators now say the airplane was attempting a “go-around” when the crash occurred.
The plane flew past railroad tracks at the end of the airport, banked left and hit a tree line.
Twitter user Tanya Aquino tweeted a photo of a fire in the woods outside Fredericksburg while she rode on Amtrak from Washington to Richmond.
Rescue teams have recovered six bodies from the burnt wreckage.
Passengers were initially told there was a fire, then that there had been a plane crash. After striking, the plane crashed in the trees and then caught fire.

The police have identified the victims, who are from Indiana, Kentucky and Germany. “Plane looks small but the fire is still going”. She also saw white smoke from the crash. Ninety-one aircraft are based there, and most are single engine.
