Six-month truce agreed in three Syrian towns

Regarding its involvement in Syrian events, Nasrallah reiterated that “Hezbollah’s intervention in Syria is strictly for Lebanese-Syrian goals”, adding that “we aspire for Lebanese-Syrian controlled borders, and keeping our borders clear of any terrorists”.

“There will be no more fighters in Zabadani”, Nasrallah said, indicating that the Syrian army could enter the remaining rebel-held areas and take control.

News emerged Thursday that warring sides in Syria reached an agreement under United Nations supervision over the fate of Foua, Kefraya and Zabdani. In exchange, some 500 rebels will withdraw from Zabadani and head for Idlib province. Also Fuaa, where he said government planes have previously dropped munitions, will no longer receive weapons and Jaish al-Fatah fighters will be allowed to leave with their weapons from Zabadani.

It also involves “the evacuation of critically wounded people from the town of Madaya that is adjacent to Zabadani, a six-month ceasefire and other points”.

Pro-government forces launched an offensive to try to recapture Zabadani on the border with Lebanon in July.

The second stage touches on the prisoners issue “that needs further negotiations”.

Nasrallah’s words came in an interview to “Al-Manar TV” Channel, during which he seized the occasion to express his honest well-wishes on the occasion of the Holy Adha, while expressing his deep regret over the recent tragic incident in Mina in Saudi Arabia.

Hassan Nasrallah says the deployment of Russian warplanes and precision missiles, as well as “resources with operating teams” is a “great development” that will influence the situation on the ground. “We would rather to be confronting Israel instead”.

The opposition has accused Syrian President Bashar Assad’s government of working with its allies, including Iran, on moving populations around to empty government-held areas of Sunnis.

Nasrallah also lashed out at the U.S. government, saying he doesn’t trust its strategy “in fighting terrorism as it’s not serious in its endeavors”. “Therefore, an electoral law based on proportional representation would be the gateway to give people a chance to elect a parliament that would improve the political life”, he explained. He called on Riyadh to allow Iran to participate in the investigation committee to probe the disaster since it lost 131 citizens in the stampede, more than any other foreign country.

“We welcome any force which intervenes and supports the front in Syria, because through its participation, it will contribute to pushing away the major dangers that are threatening Syria and the region”.
