Sixers News: Joel Embiid Done For 2015-16 Season For Second Surgery

The best case scenario for Embiid is probably Zydrunas Ilgauskas who missed 20 straight months of action due to a similar foot injury while in his early 20s. Now, Embiid definitely will undergo a second surgery, and the only question is when and where he will have it.

Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Embiid will need another surgery on his right foot and a source told him “there’s a great possibility” the former Kentucky star does not suit up next season.

However, he never played more than 65 games after his second year, missed his entire season in Philly and is now out of the National Basteball Association at age 27, despite his vast talent.

The Sixers are concerned that the injury could be career-threatening, per the Inquirer. Embiid, the #3 pick in the 2014 National Basteball Association Draft, also missed all of last season after having surgery in June 2014 to repair a stress fracture in his foot.

Philadelphia is going into the season planning that Embiid will not play this year.

The Sixers are expected to release a statement about Embiid’s immediate future.

Philadelphia, perhaps with some knowledge of how big of a setback Embiid had suffered, drafted Jahlil Okafor in last month’s National Basteball Association Draft with the third overall pick.

Despite that, Embiid was supposed to be one of the cornerstones of this franchise as they head in a new direction.

The team has yet to announce any formal decision on Embiid, but it would be a crushing blow if the Cameroon native is forced to sit out yet another season.

This is not good for the 76ers, they have been waiting on Embiid for two years now.
