It was not immediately known how badly hurt Breeland might have been.

Redskins defensive back Bashaud Breeland’s day went from bad to worse in a matter of hours on Friday at training camp. His leg gave out from under him when a receiver he was covering made a cut.

Bashaud Breeland could be missing more than just one game after the announcement he would be suspended for the Redskins’ regular season home-opener against the Dolphins, in relation to an incident last year involving marijuana. The Redskins have not yet updated his injury status.

As a rookie, Breeland started 15 games and recorded 67 tackles, two interceptions and two forced fumbles.

“It’s a big loss for us, because not only can he play inside at nickel, he can play outside”.

“He’s going to learn from this”, head coach Jay Gruden told reporters after Breeland’s suspension was announced.

Breeland, 23, was cited for possession of marijuana in August 2014 on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University. He will, however, be allowed to participate in all offseason activities, including preseason games.
