Police say they were first called around 12:44 a.m.to the 5300 block of Harvard Terrace, where six black men were reported to have been attempting to open auto doors.

Soon after another, another call to police came in reporting a vehicle being taken from a nearby garage, authorities said.

The white Nissan and the three remaining suspects are still at large.

A police officer responding to the burglary spotted the stolen SUV heading east on Oakton Street near Park Avenue, police said.

Police said another stolen vehicle, a red minivan, crashed into a squad auto which was involved in the chase of the suspects. The Skokie officer who was injured is expected to be OK.

Three males ran from the crashed minivan, but two were taken into custody after a foot chase.

A third suspect stole another auto, a black Volkswagon Touareg.

That third offender stole a black Volkswagen Touareg, which was later located by Illinois State Police and Chicago Police at a gas station near 59th and Halsted streets in Chicago, where that suspect was arrested. The vehicle was recovered and is being processed for evidence.

The driver of the Nissan got away when police were attending to the crash involving the minivan. Tips can also be texted to 847411 by texting “Skokie” and the information.
