Sky News crime correspondent Martin Brunt went to pretty 19th century St James’ parish church in Weybridge to investigate whether any increased security was visible.
In his report, Brunt stands outside the Anglican church, noting the lack of security and pointing out the sign at the church door which says everybody is welcome..
Two so-called soldiers of Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) fatally stabbed priest Father Jacques Hamel, 84, on Tuesday in an attack launched during morning mass.
After entering the church and coming back outside, Mr Brunt addressed the camera.
Stepping briefly into the building, Brunt returns and deadpans to the camera: “There are about a dozen worshippers in there and one priest”.
Fans of Chris Morris’ seminal news satire shows The Day Today and Brass Eye have been revelling in the ultimate example of life imitating art.
An astonishing news report has sparked an online storm after a journalist walked out of a church in England and announced: “If I was a terrorist, I could have killed them all”.
The remark quickly caught on, with people applying #Icouldhavekilledthemall to pretty much any situation imaginable.
