Little Dalis Cox is believed to have been shot twice by a seven-year-old boy in what police have described as an accident.

Police have not said whether the gun belonged to someone in the apartment or if it was found elsewhere by the other child.

She was taken to hospital but later died from her injuries. The 7-year-old shooter did not know the gun was loaded when he pulled the trigger while playing with the firearm.

Police are not looking for any suspects at this time and believe another child found a firearm, which discharged and struck the young girl.

“In the investigation we’ll have to figure out where that gun came from, how it got in the house, and if there is any criminal liability, somebody will be charged”, MPD Chief Cathy Lanier told reporters.

“Dalis is my life and soul”, the father said. “Tomorrow is not promised”.
