Slaven Bilic tells West Ham stars they must make sacrifices

Ghana global and West Ham’s recent record £20.5m signing Andre Ayew is facing a four-month layoff depending on whether he has surgery, says West Ham boss Slaven Bilic.

The Ghanaian was withdrawn 35 minutes into his maiden appearance for the Hammers in a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on Monday after hurting his thigh. Ayew is a £20.5 million signing from fellow Premier League side Swansea City but he is expected to miss up to four months – a bitter blow for Bilic.

West Ham and AFC Bournemouth will play their second game of the Premier League season at the London Stadium on Sunday, 21st August.

While the Croatian boss did rotate some of his key players in midweek, the chance to oppose a Hammers side who have will be playing their third game in seven days does appeal when they are being priced up as odds on favourites to win.

Our fans will be able to give us the answer after Sunday’s game.

Bournemouth come into their first away game of the season having already conceded three goals.

“It’s not ideal, but it’s a situation we have to cope with”.

He said: “The score is very simple – if we can’t beat them at home then we shouldn’t be in the Europa League”. “Hopefully we are going to make it next Thursday”.

“I’m satisfied that we’re 99 percent of the way there”.

New signings Jordon Ibe and Lewis Cook were among those to feature, and Howe told the club’s official website: “We don’t want to add too many more to the squad, there’s potentially one position we’ll look at – a younger talent”.

Both West Ham and Bournemouth lost their opening game of the new league campaign and so it is all to play for at the former Olympic venue. “He is a really good player and he proved it past year against us, not just with his hat-trick, but with his quality all season”.
