Sleet, rain moving in Monday night
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning from noon Monday through 6 a.m. Tuesday morning. “You’re not looking at much snow potential, but you’ll have some ice pellets, sleet, a little bit of freezing rain“, Martin said Sunday. Up to one-tenth of an inch of ice could accumulate, along with a thin coating of sleet.

Major flooding was observed along the Kankakee, Illinois, Sangamon and Vermilion rivers. A Situational Awareness Statement is being issued for this storm because this will be the first winter storm of the season and it may have significant impacts on Tuesday morning’s commute.
Interior York County was expected to get 4 to 6 inches of snow, with freezing snow and drizzle in the evening and a chance of freezing drizzle after midnight.
These amounts of ice accumulation can be unsafe, particularly for travel.
Gusty winds will get added to the mix, with a high-wind advisory – predicting gusts up to 50 miles per hour – expected between 1 and 10 a.m. Tuesday.
A wind advisory will be in effect from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m., according to the Weather Service says.
ANGELO J. VERZONI/Journal Tribune Snow was heavy at times this morning, reducing visibility to a half mile or less, according to the National Weather Service.
“We have the heater hooked up and the refrigerator, just the bare necessities”, said Oklahoma resident Kristy Kimmel.
Tuesday: Rain, switching to isolated showers after 2 p.m. High of 51; low of 39.
Snow changes to sleet and freezing rain from Portland west and south and to all rain from Biddeford south. Wednesday looks like a quiet day as high pressure temporarily takes hold before the next, weaker weather system moves in late in the day or at night.
Area roads are expected to be very icy Monday afternoon, December 28, and throughout the later hours.

“High pressure begins building in behind this system, ensuring a seasonal and dry end to 2015 as we ring in the New Year”, Morganelli said.
