Sloppy Manchester United not good enough – Scholes

The hosts led when Etienne Capoue converted Daryl Janmaat’s cut-back, only for Marcus Rashford to level from close range.

“The world-record player is always a question, but I want Paul to forget that and to play his football”, Mourinho said before taking United to Watford for Sunday’s Premier League match.

Jose Mourinho joined Manchester United this season as their manager.

Troy Deeney converts to give the Hornets their first victory over United in 30 years, moving Watford into ninth place in the standings, and Mourinho does not look pleased.

Following a derby defeat by Manchester City last weekend and the midweek Europa League loss to Feyenoord, Mourinho and United have had a rough eight days. The pressure was there and the team was trying to win, showing confidence but, in one isolated counter-attack, completely isolated – I don’t remember David [De Gea] touching the ball in the second half, they scored a goal. I can’t do anything to improve it and, in the second half, we were much better.

‘I was completely aware that we were not the ideal team, that we had lots of players who are not end products and can make their own mistakes’. The referee and linesman’s mistake is not under my control.

“I reflect on three factors from the match, but only one of them I can improve”, Mourinho said.

“I think it is Amrabat on the right side, he receives the ball, our left-back is 25 metres from him instead of being five”.

The club’s defeat against Watford on Sunday was a microcosm of Pogba’s time at United so far, with the 23-year-old slamming one shot with flawless technique against the bar amid an otherwise subdued display.

The Portuguese manager thought there was a foul on Anthony Martial in the lead-up to Watford’s first goal when the United forward was dispossessed by home midfielder Miguel Britos.

When pressed about the injury later on in the press conference, Mourinho responded: “I don’t know, I promise I don’t know”.

Whilst United were positively rotten in Rotterdam on Thursday night; they were equally woeful in Watford this afternoon.

It is the first time Mourinho has lost three consecutive games in a season since February 2002, when he was FC Porto boss.

Critics suggest that when Mourinho finds his best team it will probably not include both Rooney and Pogba, who like to occupy the same areas. You don’t ask me about that if you think that nothing happened.

For one, he can’t understand why Juan Mata has dropped to the bench after the Red Devils took maximum points from their opening three Premier League games with him in the team.
