The Shop Small campaign has gained momentum over the last few years and the trend took over social media on Saturday.

The National Federation of Independent Businesses has put together an interactive map of some of the store taking part in Small Business Saturday. Some businesses have been getting their distributors to give them products to donate back to flood victims. “It’s been lost and I think locally owned businesses have that to offer”, says Calhoun.

Many shop owners are in support of Small Business Saturday. Usually with most small businesses the owner is always there, or nearly always there.

Just one day after Black Friday, shoppers were encouraged to support small, locally owned stores for Small Business Saturday.

“It’s kind of like me when I go to the farmer’s market, versus the big grocery store”.

“If I’m going to pay 10 percent tax, I’d love it to stay right here with the people who are making it happen down here, because it’s a real commitment for them too”, she said.

“It’s one of my favorite shops here in town”, said Phillips.

“I think it’s really important and I’m glad to see that we’re promoting more small business, because I think that’s really important in our community”, Lindemann said. “Supporting us, supports them”, said Gallagher.

“You don’t know what’s downtown until you’ve been here”, Brenda Miller said of Eau Claire.

While people scramble to find the flawless present, small businesses want to emphasize the advantage of shopping with them.

According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, as of 2014, 63% of net new private-sector jobs were from small businesses.
