Small Business Saturday Brings Locals Out Shopping
“You can go to the mall and buy 20 of the same things for Christmas, but I think people are wanting unique stuff”, said Deleeuw.

The day was started by American Express in 2010 and encourages people to visit businesses in their community.
In only six years, Small Business Saturday has become a permanent part of the holiday shopping tradition.
After Black Friday shopping at major retailers, Saturday was all about shopping small.
Local shop Tangled Up In Hue says on this day they’ve seen their sales increase by at least 30%.
Not all participating businesses will be on these websites, so check with your local merchants about any special deals they may be offering.
Last year, an estimated $5.5 billion were spent on Small Business Saturday.
“I like to come to the small business event at least once a year to check out something unique that you can’t find at the big box stores”, said Trump.
“It’s just really exciting every time a new small business opens”.
“A lot of people came in yesterday, they avoided the big box stores and they came in and they said they were starting their Shop Small Saturday early”, says Bridget Brunner, owner of Bridget’s.
“It’s so easy. It’s not like getting caught up in the hustle of the larger department stores, I love them too but you can not beat that one on one service”.
Small Business Saturday offers locals a chance to support their Downtown community.
Today marks the sixth anniversary of Small Business Saturday.
Pewitt said the day was for small business to shine.
All around Lincoln, almost 18,000 local stores opened their doors and cut down prices for the shopping holiday.
