Small Business Saturday promotes “shopping small”
Owners say they love being able to meet neighbors and getting to know others in the community. The owner of Don Jenkins Jewelers says he’s been there for 28 years and has seen more and more businesses and specialty shops come into the area. “Then you’re not going to have any place to go”, said Kraus.

But it is Small Business Saturday, the day between Black Friday and Cyber Monday that encourage folks to think of the small shops that benefit local economies.
“We come and spend time with family”.
She says shopping locally has more community benefits than most people realize.
It’s all part of the national Small Business Saturday campaign. I’m not sure that most people understand that.
I feel like it brings the town together- it brings people together.
And customers aren’t just customers.
Marti Milakovich, the owner of “Vintage on Venice” in Mar Vista, said she was inspired by the connections small businesses can have with customers. Their style, their taste, it’s kind of fun. They’ve been in Northampton since 1986 selling unique gifts you can’t get at a big box retailer.
Either way it’s an opportunity for the small businesses to get the spot light.
“It’s been really busy. A lot of traffic, I’m pleasantly surprised”, said Deleeuw. Especially in smaller communities where they help makeup the atmosphere of downtown and build an economic engine.
“If you leave your dollars here in Jackson the merchants and the stores can give back to the city which makes the city strive”, Johnston said. Consumers spent $14.3 billion dollars on this one day event previous year.
