Last year, it is estimated 95 million people supported local business by shopping on Small Business Saturday.
“We try to make it fun because this is our way of thanking customers for supporting local businesses”, she said. Think of it as the circle of life – you buy from locals, they buy from other locals, those locals donate that money to the school basketball program, the basketball players do a carwash and donate the funds to the food bank, which in turn feeds local people and allows them to purchase some goods from the local grocery store. Right here in Chautauqua County you will find some unbelievable gift items: unique treasures, home goods, jewelry, artisan- and locally-made items, local wines, clothing, sporting goods, accessories, and so much more!
Support local job growth: Small businesses create two out of three net new private-sector jobs in the US which spurs economic development and job growth.
Locally, the event is supported by the Richland Area Chamber of Commerce, Ontario Growth Association, Main Street Books, Downtown Mansfield Inc., The Clear Fork Valley Chamber of Commerce, Be Focal Buy Local and Shelby Area Business Group.
“Oftentimes, you’re talking to the owner of the establishment, forming a relationship with them”, she said. “It keeps money local in the area”. We need to make choices that will sustain future generations.
Another business who understands the livelihood aspect of local shopping is Crack of Dawn Bakery in downtown Faribault. And that goes for our entire region from Osage to Menahga, Dorset to Nevis to Akeley, north to Lake George, and all the businesses – big and small – in between. She said Button Up sees at least a 50 percent increase in sales on the day.
That’s why the Greater New Hyde Park Chamber of Commerce launched its first-ever “Shop Local, Shop Greater New Hyde Park Month”, a campaign to drum up support for local businesses throughout the month of November.
By shopping at your local businesses, you are investing in our community, making our town stronger and helping to promote civic pride.
HollywoodLifers, are you going to shop small on Small Business Saturday?
Customers who shop at Quality Cobbler will find all kinds of sales this week, including on Softspot shoes, kids tennis shoes, Dynasty running shoes and Minnetonka moccasin sandals, she said.
Names of participating businesses are included in ads published in the News Journal, both on Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday.
“If people would make a conscious effort in our area to shop locally before going out of town or buying through the internet they would find they can find numerous same products and bargains they are looking for elsewhere”, she continued.
“Sales tax dollars are important as well”.
