Smalling: Vardy boosts non-league search
Vardy’s eligibility for the Champions League and the fact he qualifies as a home-grown player means Leicester are confident of holding out for a significant fee for the striker who is likely to be at the fulcrum of transfer speculation in the coming months.

Renowned screenwriter Adrian Butchart says he wants to make a biopic about Leicester City and England striker Jamie Vardy’s rise from a non-league-footballer to a top-flight-record-breaker.
“It’s unbelievable. I think I got a bit carried away with myself”, Vardy said while being shown a replay of his record-breaking goal.
“But I want to play as many games as I can and help the team out”.
Vardy, 28, now has 14 goals in as many games this season as he has spearheaded the Foxes’ run to second in the Premier League table – level on points with leaders Manchester City.
“He comes across as quite amusing sometimes because he has not got the full English language yet but he is brilliant for the players and the club in general”.
Leicester hero Jamie Vardy is happy to play through the pain barrier when he goes in search of another record-breaking goal at Swansea next Saturday.
Vardy accomplished his record by racing onto a pass from Christian Fuchs on 24 minutes and drilling a low shot past David de Gea to put Leicester in front.
He added: “It’s one job getting here [into the first team] but it’s 10 times harder making sure you stay here”.
But Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri has always been adamant that Vardy is going nowhere, and the forward told Sky Sports News HQ that he is in no hurry to move.
Vardy is tied with former Blackpool striker Stan Mortensen for the all-time record of scoring in consecutive games in England’s top division. I have the feeling that we could have won this game. If you have to spend 300 million euros, you would not buy such a bunch of cake bakers?
Jamie Vardy might be the romantic story right now but eight years ago Smalling was playing for Maidstone United.

“I think if you can find some sort of hidden gems in the local sides or non-league sides, it’s a no-brainer”.
